‘America’s Got Talent’: Demian Aditya’s death-defying escape act has gone viral — Watch at your own risk! May 31st 2017, 17:30, by Marcus James Dixon
If you missed the “America’s Got Talent” Season 12 premiere Tuesday night, you didn’t see Demian Aditya risk his life in this death-defying escape act (watch above). The four-minute clip has gone viral, with over 2.6 million clicks at YouTube within the past day. For only the second time in his life, Aditya was tasked with escaping from shackles before the 900 pounds of sand above him dropped and buried him alive. When judge Howie Mandel asks the 36-year-old from Jakarta, Indonesia if he’s willing to risk his life, Aditya responds, “For ‘America’s Got Talent’? Yes.”
The “AGT” act begins with Aditya handcuffing himself against a backdrop of pulse-pounding music while his wife tells new host Tyra Banks, “I can’t watch this.” Mandel reminds his fellow judges, “That’s 900 pounds of sand,” to which Simon Cowell notes, “I think sand can be worse than water.”
Aditya is quickly able to free his hands, but the clasp around his neck won’t come off. Meanwhile, the hundreds of pounds of sand continue to drop from above. Mel B soon exclaims, “Oh my God, what’s wrong?” In a shocking twist, Aditya seemingly gets stuck inside as the sand collapses and buries him. “Is that a problem?” asks Mandel.
Two men rush the stage to help him out, and one of them breaks the glass with a hammer to empty the chamber. This man then turns around and reveals himself as Aditya. The magic act was too surprising for the judges to pass up, so they all agree to send him through to the next round. Be sure to read our recap of “America’s Got Talent” Season 12, Episode 1.
