‘Doctor Who’ preview: The alien invasion begins in ‘The Pyramid at the End of the World’ [WATCH] May 26th 2017, 20:30, by Daniel Montgomery
“We will take this planet and its people. Life on Earth will cease by humanity’s own hand,” says an alien invader in a trailer for the next episode of “Doctor Who,” titled “The Pyramid at the End of the World,” which airs on Saturday, May 27. Watch the preview above.
Those are the same alien creatures the Doctor (Peter Capaldi), Bill (Pearl Mackie) and Nardole (Matt Lucas) encountered in last week’s episode, “Extremis.” In that harrowing hour, we were led to believe the Doctor and his companions were solving a mystery in the Vatican, but the characters and the audience were shocked to discover that they weren’t real at all. They were digital representations created as part of a massive Earth simulator used to plan a real-world invasion of the planet. Before the Doctor died within the simulator he was able to send a message to the real Doctor to warn him, but the aliens have already had time to prepare to overthrow the human race.
So how will the invasion take place? It has something to do with a pyramid that seems to be ancient, but actually appeared overnight. “Those creatures in that pyramid have studied you, and they have chosen this exact moment and this exact place.” How does the pyramid factor into the alien threat? We’ll find out on Saturday night.
